IV. Digital Mammography
Digital Mammography is specialized medical imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to see inside the breasts. A mammography exam, aids in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. It is used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer in women experiencing no symptoms. They can also be used to detect and diagnose breast disease in women experiencing symptoms such as lump, pain, skin dimpling or nipple discharge.
Tips for Getting a Digital Mammography
Try not to have your mammogram the week before you get your period or during your period. Your breasts may be tender or swollen then.
On the day of your mammogram, don’t wear deodorant, perfume, or powder. These products can show up as white spots on the X-ray.
Some women prefer to wear a top with a skirt or pants, instead of a dress. You will need to undress from your waist up for the mammogram.
