Hemodialysis Unit
The Hemodialysis Unit of Tagaytay Medical Center provides hemodialysis treatment to patients with end stage chronic kidney disease (CKD). It has fourteen dialysis machines that are manned by dedicated, compassionate, and competent nephrologists, renal nurses and technicians that make every dialysis session worth while. The unit follows the strictest standards of quality nursing care to ensure a safe and effective dialysis treatment.
The unit is also capable of providing hemodialysis to critically patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Patients in the Hemodialysis Unit are provided with Renal Rehabilitation in partnership with the hospital’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. It is an intervention designed to optimize the physical, psychological, and social functioning of a renal patient.
TMC is the second hospital in the country to offer Renal Rehabilitation.
What is Hemodialysis?
Hemodialysis is the most common type of dialysis. It is a life sustaining treatment that is offered to patients when the kidneys are too damaged to continue to work properly. It is also a therapy that filters waste, removes extra fluid and balances electrolytes of the body.
How does hemodialysis work?
In hemodialysis, a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer, are used to clean your blood. To get your blood into the dialyzer, the doctor needs to make an access, into your blood vessels. This is done with minor surgery, usually to your arm.
What is the advantage of having your hemodialysis in a hospital than in a stand-alone clinic?
The advantage of having your dialysis in a hospital is that trained professionals are with you all the times. Patients feel safe in the knowledge that the responsibility of their dialysis is undertaken by trained doctors and nursing staff.
